Stasis Dermatitis |
 The very
signs of Stasis Dermatitis can be seen by swelling in the lower
legs. Sometimes dark shaded spots will appear around the ankle area.
This is an early sign of future stasis problems that can result into
stasis ulcers. Stasis Dermatitis can also appear as a bright red
rash that usually shows up in the front area ( shin area ) of the
lower legs. This rash can be painful with burning and stinging
sensations. Many doctors recommend Vaseline to be applied to the
rash. This may help keep the rash moist and may help with some of
the stinging sensation, but does nothing to help deal with the
rash. Swollen, itchy, discolored skin on the lower legs is often the
result of stasis dermatitis. As the body ages, the micro-scopic
blood vessels, called capillaries, that feed the skin become
weakened as a result of age and a continuous fight against gravity.
Ultimately, the skin ceases to receive the required oxygen and
nutrients it requires. Also, it is unable to get rid of the waste
products that accumulate in the tissue. As this occurs, the skin
begins to break down, resulting in symptoms such as itching,
tingling or soreness and hard crusty skin. |
